Azkoaga Enea is a Hotel situated in the old quarter of Eskoriatza (Gipuzkoa) , which was established as a result of a project developed over many years. Azkoaga Enea is a family home, which, over the last hundred years, has always taken in people who have passed by. The house also has a grocer?s shop, in which four generations have devoted part of their time to serving the town of Eskoriatza. In order to conserve this hundred-year-old house, we have restored, refurbished and modernised it, and from now on it will be a small Hotel with a small shop.

History of the Building

The building started off as a small forge, at the beginning of 1900. My great-grandfather opened a grocer?s shop where the people of Eskoriatza could buy all kinds of products. The account books alone, which were found in the house and donated to the Ibarraundi Museum of Eskoriatza, have enabled to us to find out how the families of the town organised themselves. The baserritarras (local farmers) exchanged their farm products for others that they could not produce from farming. There was also a record of the different purchases made for new couples... In 1922, the tobacconist?s was opened, and it is still open today and forms a part of the building.
